Providing this training to your bilingual and multilingual employees complies with all federal regulations including The Joint Commission, Section 1557 of the ACA, and more. With the workforce shortage of interpreters, bilingual and multilingual employees can now fulfill dual roles to include medical interpretation.  Having home grown qualified interpreters increases employee satisfaction and retention.  Trained employees are utilized by their fellow co-workers and medical staff which creates a more cohesive environment for the patient. Effective communication is crucial in healthcare, educational institutions, and community environments, as it increases understanding and empowers clients. However, establishing competent, reliable, and efficient programs can be challenging.

Relying solely on language service companies is insufficient to meet your limited English proficient customer’s needs. Improving health outcomes and delivery of care requires building a relationship with your LEP’s and utilizing an in-person trained medical interpreter may be your only solution. Staff who are bilingual or multilingual are fulfilling these dual roles. Not everything can be resolved through a brief phone or video call.
